One of my FAVORITE jobs each year is photographing the children at Waterstone Preschool in Littleton! If you've been following me for a while, you know that I LOVE kids, so it is an absolute joy for me to be able to spend a couple of days photographing dozens of them. This year we had 130 children ranging in age from 12 months to 5 years old, and as always, I left each day with sore cheeks from smiling so much. ☺️
This job is extra special to me for a couple of reasons...
1.) I grew up in this church (back when it was still Centennial Community Church) from the time I was 5 years old, so going back feels like going home.
2.) I taught at the preschool for 3 years before I had children of my own. My time teaching at Waterstone Preschool was incredible, and I was blessed beyond words by the children, by my co-workers (a few of whom still work there!), and by gaining skills and knowledge that have served me during my own parenting journey.
As you probably know, I don't live in Littleton anymore, but I LOVE having the excuse to go back each year! This year our schedule was different due to COVID–I'm normally there in September/October, but this year it was April because things were still crazy in the fall. We were hoping to luck out with warm weather and spring blooms because our photos have always taken place outside, but Colorado had different plans, per usual. 😉
I actually had a feeling that the Colorado weather wouldn't cooperate, so I started working on a backup plan a couple of months ago, and it's a good thing–we ended up needing to do this year's photos inside because of snow and cold. My vision for our indoor photos was: minimalistic, modern, and clean.
I didn't want the backdrop to distract from the kids' personalities, and I feel like we accomplished that! When I think of traditional indoor school photos, they tend to feel stiff and ultra-posed, so I wanted to find a way to keep things fun and relaxed. I considered incorporating a chair or apple crate, but decided to skip that and just follow the children's lead with relaxed posing and I'm SO glad I did! These kids brought so much personality and fun, and I'm thrilled with the photos that we created!
Scroll on down for an overload of cuteness! Thank you to Waterstone Preschool staff, students, and parents for having me back for the 6th year in a row–I can't wait to see you all again in September!
**I want to say a special "thank you!" to the parents who have allowed me to share their children's photos–I will never post client photos without permission, and I am so thankful to be able to share these with you!**
