I have loved photographing this awesome family for the past 3 years! Bob, Jessie, and their kids are always so warm and welcoming, and their property in Kiowa, Colorado is SO perfect for photo sessions! Each year, the kids show me new areas of their forest, and we explore together while updating their family photos. 

Speaking of locations – helping my clients choose the perfect location for their photo session is one of the most important parts of my job. It's easy with this fam since we take their photos at their house, but the majority of us don't live in a magical forest, so it's a little more difficult. 😉

I don't talk a lot about the behind-the-scenes work that I do, but I spend a lot of time searching for new locations, and then doing the research to make sure that they will work well for my clients. This includes researching any applicable photography permits that many public locations require, scouting the locations in person to see what times of day and in what seasons they will work best (some locations have better light in the morning, and some in the evening; some work best in spring/summer/fall/winter, etc) and finding out who owns specific pieces of land because trespassing isn't my jam. 😉 I've found several hidden gems that I was sure were private property, but they are actually publicly owned and free to use. I also make sure to have a couple of easily accessible locations handy for clients who can't walk longer distances. Clients: if you ever have a question about potential locations please let me know!
